Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Bone Marrow Stem Cells relies on Xuzhou Medical College and the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical College. After more than fifty years development, Xuzhou Medical College has now become the center of medical education, service and research in the north of Jiangsu Province as well as Huaihai Economic Zone. The center for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, located at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical College, is the fixed-point unit for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation firstly approved by Jiangsu Province, as well as for hematopoietic stem cell collection and transplantation for unrelated donorsof Chinese Marrow Donor Program.
Currently there are 48 staffs, of which 19 full-time research, 28 Associate Professors and Professors, 30 PhDsand/or MDs and overseas returnees, 6 PhD and/or MD supervisors and 16 Master supervisors. In addition, there are around 40 persons who are award as Innovation and Enterprise Talents of Jiangsu Province, Medical Leading Talents of Jiangsu Province, State Council Expert for Special Allowance, Youth Outstanding Contribution Experts of Ministry of Health or Jiangsu Province or New Century Talents of Ministry of Education.
The main research areas of the Key Lab involve hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and associated complications, basic studies and application of endothelial progenitor cells, leukemia and tumor stem cells. Staffs from the lab have won one Second Class Prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, two Second Class Prizes of the University Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (Science and Technology) of Ministry of Education, one Second and two Third Class Prizes of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Prize and three Second Class Prizes of the Jiangsu ProvinceScience and Technology Prize. Meanwhile, in recent three years, 51 national level projects and 44 provincial level projects have been undertaken in the lab with 102 publications.
In addition, the lab also puts a high value on international collaborations and has established collaborations with Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute University, Department of Pathology of Tufts Medical Center, Department of Radiation Oncology of University of North Carolina, Laboratory of Tzu Chi Immune Genes (Taiwan, China) and Shengbao Umbilical Cord Blood Bank of Taiwan University.
